Keep Design In Mind
Do You?

Web Accessibility, often referred to as just “Accessibility”, is a concept related to Universal Design and involves the design and development of websites, tools, and technologies to allow users with disabilities to utilize these items without hindrances.

Accessibility protocols involve a culmination of best practices, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), and regulations encompassing Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

Disabilities and Benefits

Accessibility involves all disabilities that affect access to the Web, including (W3C, 2020):

  • Auditory
  • Cognitive
  • Neurological
  • Physical
  • Speech
  • Visual

Accessibility goes beyond just a disability, as it can benefit everyday users. For example, a transcript for a video can help a student who is in an environment where they cannot fully experience the media visually or auditorily.
