Genealogy

Overview

Aside from my education and “techie” background – I also have an interest in history and genealogy. My love for genealogy began in grade school when I was tasked with a group of pupils to research our hometown – Michigan City, Indiana. From there it exploded into a family history project I never thought possible.

It All Started By Having A Chat With Grandma...

In the course of our research, I came across surnames from my maternal grandmother's side in city history books, depicting my families involvement with some of the founding milestones of the city. I questioned my grandmother of this - who sat me down for a very long story.

Compiling Research

Over the course of many years, until I began graduate school, I managed to compile the Criswell – Schlaak Genealogy. This was done through interviewing, analyzing family records, requesting microfiche film or county records from various localities across the U.S., visiting or communicating with local historical societies, reviewing archived printed media in various mediums, spending countless hours reviewing printed media in many libraries across the Midwest, utilizing evolving genealogy online search engines and databases, and traveling to localities of former families across the country.
